Korea you are so hot...

When they tell you Korea gets hot in the summer they should have warned me. Really, the heat is pretty unbelievable some days. Its been about 36 degrees everyday, give or take a degree and walking anywhere in that kind of heat is exhausting. Also, the AC in my school seems to be on slow motion because it never seems to get cool enough to be comfortable in the classrooms. I bring cold water to class but I feel bad for the students who are not allowed to have drinks or food in the classroom. So I take them on small field trips to the water fountain...such a nice teacher I am!!

I took a summer position teaching the summer session that is offered during the kids' one month summer vacation. This means that I teach an extra 4 hrs a day in the mornings. It's really fun because the classes are less structured and we teach fun things like movies, drama, culture, language arts. Overall I'm really enjoying it, I finished my first week very tired from getting used to getting up early and teaching for 10 hrs a day with a 3 hrs break in between.

This week we have our summer vacation, so I'm off for a relaxing week. Most teachers have booked some pretty fabulous vacations but since I got here a month ago booking a holiday was hard. But Dave and I (Dave is my wonderful Daegu friend from NYC) have decided to go to Busan and possibly Seoul this week. I also plan to take care of some other things at home...like buying a coffee maker and maybe some garbage cans...haha

Subway Experience...

I live very close to a subway stop but I had not ventured into the life of the subway...however today I had to meet my friend Yun Young downtown and I had to take the subway. So I put my brave face on, walked down the stairs and bought a token. Then I got to the gate and I couldn't find the slot for the token. I was very confused. So I looked over at the little boy staring at me, showed him the token and gave him my best please help me look...he chuckled and showed me that I have to scan the token. So anyways I got on the right line, going in the right direction and got off at the right stop...but the little boy forgot to tell me that in order to leave the station I must deposit the token into the slot and not try to swipe...a security guard came over and helped me...and I thought I was doing so well.

However after all that, I went downtown, did some shopping, ate some dinner and had a fabulous time. I also got home alright on the subway, now I'm an experienced subway taker and who knows where I'll end up going.

As promised my apartment pictures have been added to an album which can be found along with the rest over on the right hand side of the blog, enjoy!!!
