Wow its been a while since I've updated my faithful readers...so here it goes.
Seoul was amazing. Definitely one of the most spectacular cities I've ever visited. The only word to describe it is, GRAND. It truly is one of the greatest metropolis of the world. Seoul has over 10 million people in the urban core and over 23 million in the Greater Seoul area. It is one of the largest cities in the world and with its area being smaller than Tokyo or New York it is one of the most densely populated. All that being said, its hard to imaging a city with so many people all existing in some sort of organized fashion, but they do and it works.
I was there for three days, not nearly long enough to really get a feel for the city but I will go back, many times. It takes about 2 hrs to get there on the KTX (express train) and you get to see the countryside on your way. While I was there I reconnected with a friend from Guelph. It was nice to see a familiar face (and a bonus to have a free place to sleep). While I was there we walked around the city, went to the National Museum of Korea and the zoo.
On the last day I visited another friend in Songtan. Songtan is located in the GSA (greater Seoul area) and takes about 1 hr on the subway. Songtan is near the Osan Air Force base and has a lot of foreigners, most being from the US Air Force. Needless to say, its a fun place...haha...and lets just say thank goodness for kettles!!!
Overall, Seoul and the GSA were a fun getaway and I looking forward to returning. There is something to be said for a city that makes Daegu and its 3 million inhabitants feel like a small town...
